Saving Lives and Logging Dives

Ayobowan!

We have now been in Sri Lanka for over a week and everyone has settled in nicely to our new accommodation. The last 2 days have been one’s full of dive training for 6 of our team members. Yesterday, Andrew Mid and Esther both completed their final 2 dives of their PADI Advanced Open Water course, an Underwater Photography dive and an intriguing Wreck dive to finish off. Both are now fully qualified Advanced Divers!

Jack, Jamie, Andrew Mat and Maria had a very long day of Rescue Diver training, simulating and executing different panicking diver, underwater unresponsive diver and diver carrying scenarios. This work continued onto today were an early morning was met with lost unresponsive diver and rescuing breathing scenarios at the White Rock dive site. They then moved onto more work in the afternoon in the Trincomalee bay area practising panicked diver evacuations on the shore and onto a boat/docking using floatation aids. Tomorrow will be exam day and from thereafter all 4 will be fully qualified PADI Rescue Divers! just in time for the beginning of our Pilot Studies the same day.

As the divers were doing their thing, the rest of the team headed off to the centre of Trincomalee via the local buses to immerse themselves in one of the local religions. They visited a Hindu temple known as the Koneswarna Temple where they attended morning prayer with open arms. They then explored the ins and outs of the town, where they became particularly friendly with the local wildlife and markets.
